What are the requirements to run for municipal office?

Must be:
• 18 Years old;
• a US citizen;
• a registered voter; and
• a resident of Eagle Mountain City (or a recently annexed area) for twelve consecutive months prior to the election.

Any mentally incompetent person, or any person convicted of a felony, or any person convicted of treason or a crime against the elective franchise may not hold office in this state until the right to vote or hold elective office is restored as provided by statute.

How do I file a declaration of candidacy?

Declarations of candidacy are filed in the City Recorder’s Office from June 1 through June 7. The Declaration of Candidacy and Qualifications for Candidate Filing Declarations must be signed in person in the City Recorder’s Office and filed before 5:00 p.m. on June 7, 2023.

What if I cannot file a declaration of candidacy in person?

An individual may designate an agent to file a declaration of candidacy with the City Recorder if:
• the individual is located outside of the state during the entire filing period;
• the designated agent appears in person before the City Recorder;
• the individual communicates with the City Recorder using an electronic device that allows the individual and City Recorder to see and hear each other; and
• the individual provides the City Recorder with an email address to which the City Recorder may send the individual election forms and information.

What are the requirements to register to vote?

To register to vote, you must be a US citizen, a resident of Utah for at least 30 days before the election, and at least 18 years old on or before the day of the election.

If you are 16 or 17 years old, you can pre-register to vote. If you pre-register, you will automatically be registered to vote when you turn 18 years old.

Register Online: You can register to vote online here. To register online, you must have a valid Utah Driver License or Utah ID. If your current address does not match the address on your Driver License, update your UT Driver License address online first at dld.utah.gov.

Register with a Paper Form: Fill out this form and mail, email, or submit it in person to the Utah County Clerk before the registration deadline. When will I receive my ballot?

The Utah County Clerk’s Office will mail ballots approximately three weeks before each election (August 15, 2023 for the Primary Election and October 31, 2023 for the General Election).

Any voter residing temporarily in another state or at another address within Utah may request to have their ballot mailed to that location on a temporary basis. Contact the Utah County Clerk’s Office at 801.851.8128 for more information.

What if I don’t receive my ballot?

If you do not receive a ballot shortly after the Utah County Clerk’s office mails them out, contact the Utah County Clerk’s Office at 801.851.8128 or elections@utahcounty.gov.

Where do I vote?

By Mail: A postage-paid envelope is provided for your convenience. You may also drop your ballot in any Utah County Official Ballot Drop Box, including the one located on the north side of City Hall. Click here to see a list of all Official Ballot Drop Box locations.

In Person: While there are not polling locations for the 2023 election, you may go to any Vote Center on Election Day from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM to pick up your ballot. Once you’ve filled out your ballot, simply drop it in the Official Ballot Drop Box.

Can I vote if I’m on a mission, away at school, or “snowbirding” away from home?

Yes! If you are a resident of Utah residing temporarily in another state or at another address within Utah, you may request to have a ballot mailed to that location on a temporary basis. Fill out this absentee application and submit it to the Utah County Clerk no later than the Tuesday before the election.
